My Life and Work - A Continual Search
The content of the book is available here along with the pictures included in the book.

Note from the author:

Over a period of ten years, I wrote the story of my life.  The writing is based on diary entries, letters, other documents and  notes from the past, my own memories and those shared with me by others. Throughout my professional life, I have believed in the importance of documentation  when writing about the past, relying as  much as possible on primary sources, of course realizing that selection from these sources results in subjectivity.

My purpose in writing was to present the evolution of a life, based on many different experiences and driven by a spirit of  open-ended searching.

Potcher
The content of the book is available here.

Note from the author:

This is the story of my friend, Potcher Lee Cooper.  Many times I have told Potcher that I think he is one of the finest men I have ever known.  With his help, I want to tell his story for him, his wife Lillie, his children and grandchildren in an effort to understand how he came to be the man he is today.  The story is based in large part on his sharing from his memory, any records I could find, information shared by others, my wife Fran's records of her work with him, a visit with him in his community, and my friendship with him for more than twenty years.

Metaphor and Meaning In My Life
The content of the book is available here.

Note from the author:

All of us use metaphors without even being aware we are expressing concepts and ideas in a more vague manner by connecting with  concrete things in our experience.  Metaphors help us to define reality and then act on the basis of those metaphors.  They help us to structure and understand our experience.  In this book, I have constructed metaphors in an effort to achieve greater meaning in my own life.  In this spirit, I suggest that the book is a walkway that connects the door of my mind with the mind of the reader; the latch of each door is on the inside.  I have opened one latch, and I welcome the reader to open the other one.

Lillie
The content of the book is available here.

Note from the author:

After I wrote Potcher‘s story, I overheard Lillie say one day that she would like to tell her story at sometime in the future. I asked her if she would like for me to help her tell her story. This was the beginning of this book. I decided to let Lillie tell the story through me to her children and grandchildren. I decided to spend a good bit of time checking records on Ancestry.com,  bringing her story from a freed slave to Lillie’s present life. I spent time letting her talk, and I made notes. It was a wonderful way for her to share her life with me and then through me tell the story to others. We also spent a morning in the community where she grew up, understanding the importance of the sense of place in a person’s life. In addition to her life story I asked her if she would share with readers some of her basic beliefs and some important lessons she has learned through experience. Now she and Potcher both have their stories to pass on to their descendants.
